Sting a la Venice - multo benne

A good photo of Sting deserves another - seimpre. As Sting nears his sixtieth year, he has lost none of his appeal. These are some recents photos taken of him in Venice.

My fan-hood goes back to his Police days. While I had the name, Roxy, picked out when I was 16 years old for the daughter I knew I would have one day,
the Police choosing to use the name for a song only served to heighten its appeal. Yes, I know Sting is singing about a Dutch prostitute, but hey, he got inspiration from a poster of Cyrano de Bergerac's character, Roxanne.

I finally was able to meet Sting in 1999 when he was in Houston and touring for his "Brand New Day/Desert Rose" CD. I won tickets from a radio station in Houston when they had a contest where listeners would call in and try to name 5 things about Sting in 30 seconds. The first two callers were so lame and totally flubbed their chances. I was the third caller and rattled off about 20 things in 10 seconds, securing the tickets to come to Jones Hall for a sound check meet and greet, dinner and concert.

I was expecting to meet a haughty, disinterested man, but was surprised when he turned out to be as generous, polite and as gracious as you would hope that someone who makes their living off of fans buying their music could possibly be.

He signed my CD case to Roxanne, my daughter, and posed for numerous pictures with my buddy George and I. Lyle Lovett was at the sound check and they rehearsed a number together. Jones Hall has some of the best acoustics in Houston, he had Cheb Mami singing vocals on Desert Rose and Lili Hayden played violin, she of Porno for Pyros fame and Sasha Lazard fame.
